Regatta Report:

Saturday:

Winds started southwest and moved southeast 8-12 kts. Finished the 66 race qualifying round robin in 5.5 hours. The observing system was used and there were 3 protest heard resulting in 2 DSQs and the changing the results of one race. Regatta will continue on Sunday with a four-team Championship double round robin (Coronado, Jesuit, USDHS & Lakewood), a single silver round robin (Tabor, Williams, Key & Newport Harbor), and a single round robin for the bronze fleet. (St Pete, Portsmouth Abbey, Loyola, & Bainbridge)

Sunday:

After waiting for thunderstorms to clear and the wind to fill in and settle down, racing began in earnest around noon. The championship round saw great competition with no team establishing themselves as the "team to beat" until the end. Going into the last set, the regatta was up for grabs. Coronado HS sealed victory by polishing off a scrappy Jesuit HS squad. University of San Diego HS earned second place by beating Lakewood HS in their final race, while Lakewood squeaked pass Jesuit for third based upon the head-to-head tiebreaker.

In the Silver division, Newport Harbor HS finished fifth by running the table. Williams edged Tabor for sixth on the lowest points tiebreaker. Key was 8th. In the Bronze round, St. Petersburg put together three wins to secure 9th while Portsmouth Abbey, Loyola Academy and Bainbridge HS held their positions from Saturday. Racing was done by 3:45. For Sunday there were 4 protests, resulting in 1 DSQ that did not affect the result of the race.

Next year's Baker is in the Mid-west District.
