Lake Minnetonka Sailing School, Wayzata, Minnesota, www.lakeminnetonkasailingschool.org, seeks one of the most talented directors in the U.S. to organize and manage its entire program. The school teaches sailing and racing to over 1000 students a year, from pre-teens to adults, from beginners to national medalists. Prime teaching time runs from mid-June to mid-August, with as many as eight classes conducted simultaneously at the school’s two sites on Lighthouse Island (five classrooms) and Wayzata Bay. Eight high school sailing teams and college teams from the University of Minnesota and St. Thomas University train at the Wayzata Bay site in the spring and fall. Classes for children are taught by the school’s 19 coaches and instructors in school-owned fleets of Vanguard Prams, Club 420s, and FJs, and combinations of school-owned and privately-owned Optimists, Lasers, and X-boats. Adult classes are taught on the school’s J-22 or the student’s own boat. Besides the director, assistant director, and coaching staff, the school employs three support staff. The director is responsible for organizing and managing the program, from planning class schedules and hiring and supervising employees to purchasing and maintaining equipment. The position is full-time, year-round, beginning September 1, 2004. Salary commensurate with skills and experience. The school hopes to begin interviewing candidates no later than August 1, 2004, so that the transition from our current director to the new director may begin as early as September 1, 2004, with the final handover no later than January 1, 2005.
